China Intensifies Corruption Crackdown With Nationwide Sweep

Jason Lee/ReutersChina’s top anti-corruption bodies announced investigations into nine officials across the country on April 9, marking the latest sign of an intensifying crackdown that is reaching deep into local governments, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) system.The officials—spanning provinces including Anhui, Guangdong, Hubei, Xinjiang, Shandong, Liaoning, and Sichuan—were accused of “serious violations of discipline and law,” a standard phrase used by the CCP to denote corruption-related offenses.
