Peruvian Court Orders Pretrial Detention of Former President Martín Vizcarra

A Peruvian judge on Aug. 14 ordered the pretrial detention of the country’s former president, Martín Vizcarra, who is accused of taking bribes when he was a regional governor more than 10 years ago.

At the hearing, Judge Jorge Chávez ordered Vizcarra to be held in detention for five months, effective immediately.
