Former South Korean President Appeals Life Sentence for Insurrection Over Martial Law Decree

Lee Jin-man/Pool/AP PhotoLawyers for former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on Feb. 24 said he has appealed the life sentence a Seoul court handed him for rebellion in relation to his brief imposition of martial law in December 2024.Seoul Central District Court on Feb. 19 found Yoon guilty on charges of abuse of authority and orchestrating an insurrection. The former president’s lawyers said in their appeal of the conviction that they aim to address the “errors in fact-finding and misinterpretations of the law” contained in the ruling.
