The Canadian Press/Nick IwanyshynThe Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) says residents near a Welland, Ont., home should continue to shelter in place after one of their officers was shot by a male suspect whose surrender is still being negotiated.Police say they responded to a keep the peace call alongside bylaw officers about an issue regarding a fencing dispute at around 7:20 a.m. EST on Dec. 19, when they were subsequently fired on by a resident on nearby Second Street around 7:45 a.m.
