President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, has accused Russia of threatening the independence of the country by attempting to influence the result of this weekend’s pivotal parliamentary elections.

Sandu, who is pressing for her country to join the European Union, delivered a speech on Tuesday alleging Russian meddling in the former Soviet Union state after police arrested dozens of people accused of involvement in a plot to stoke violent disorder.
