A recent RentCafe report shares a national comparison, using a baseline of $1,500 for a monthly apartment rental, of how much space and amenities that amount will provide in various metropolitan areas throughout the United States.

In Wichita, Kansas, for example, $1,500 a month offers a 1,329-square-foot apartment, which is typically enough space for up to three or four bedrooms. In contrast, renters in Manhattan paying the same amount will have to settle for just 216 square feet, smaller than the average studio apartment.
