US Extends Robust Security Guarantees to Ukraine as Part of Peace Negotiations

Kay Nietfeld/POOL/AFP via Getty ImagesWASHINGTON—Substantial progress was made over the weekend in peace talks in Berlin aimed at ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, senior U.S. officials said on Monday.Speaking to reporters in a call, the officials said that the talks resulted in the strongest possible package, including “robust” security guarantees for Ukraine, similar to NATO’s Article 5 protections.
