An electric vehicle explosion captured on camera in B.C. was triggered by a short circuit in a battery module that sent an “abnormal voltage” through a third-party charging adapter, according to a recent Technical Safety BC report.

The report said that an individual had been charging a Tesla EV at a non-Tesla commercial electric vehicle charger when a short circuit between the charging cable and an “after-market charging adaptor” caused an arc flash.
