Members of Parliament are now subject to tighter disciplinary and procedural rules, as the Albanese government pushed through significant changes to parliamentary standing orders using its enlarged majority on July 23.

Under the new provisions, the speaker has been given authority to eject MPs for up to three hours for repeated or escalating disorderly conduct—tripling the previous 60-minute suspension limit.
