Man Critically Injured After Car Drives Away From Toronto Gas Station With Nozzle Attached

Date:

A 63-year-old man sustained “life-threatening” injuries after being hit by a gas pump hose while another man drove away with the nozzle still attached to his vehicle, Toronto police say.

Officers were called to a gas station in Etobicoke at approximately 5:30 p.m. April 7 for a report of a collision, police said in a press release.

A man driving a 2003 silver Mercedes-Benz E500 left the gas station with the nozzle still attached to his car, police said in the April 8 press release. The hose detached from the gas pump and hit the 63-year-old, causing him to fall. He was transported to hospital with severe injuries.

The driver returned to the scene and was arrested, police said.

Twenty-six-year-old Ayub Bsis of Toronto has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, causing bodily harm, and careless driving causing bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 2.

Authorities are requesting that anyone with security or dashcam recordings of the area or incident share them with police.
