Larger Number of Pro-Life MPs Heading to Ottawa After Election, Non-Profit Says

Date:

Canadians elected more pro-life MPs during the recent federal election and re-elected every pro-life incumbent, according to Campaign Life Coalition (CLC).

CLC, a pro-life non-profit, said 42 candidates it had “green-lit” were elected during the April 28 election, including six new pro-life MPs. All pro-life MPs are Conservative.

“We especially congratulate the six new pro-life MPs who ran excellent campaigns and encourage them to bring the pro-life voice into our country’s hall of power,” CLC said.

The organization has been critical that Canada’s main parties have “abandoned the over 100,000 preborn children targeted annually by abortion.”

CLC also expressed concern that the Liberal election platform promised taxpayer funds for abortion across the country and overseas.

The Liberals have banned pro-life candidates from running for office under the party. The Conservatives welcome candidates with different beliefs on this issue, but have made it clear that they don’t intend on introducing any restrictions on abortion.

Abortion is legal at any stage of pregnancy in Canada.

“Everyone has the right to make decisions about their own bodies, and no one should be forced to carry an unwanted or unsafe pregnancy,” the federal government says.

The CLC had set up a special election website to promote nearly 160 candidates who ran “principled campaigns” from the Conservative Party, the People’s Party of Canada, the Christian Heritage Party, the United Party of Canada, and others.
