Igloo Coolers Recalled in Canada, US After Reports of Fingertip Amputations

Date:

An urgent recall has been issued across North America for towable Igloo coolers following multiple reports of fingertip amputations and bone fractures.

Igloo is recalling more than one million of its 90-quart wheeled coolers in Canada, the United States, and Mexico after the company received reports of cooler tow handles causing severe injuries.

The tow handle of 46 models of Igloo’s 90 Qt Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers has the potential to pinch users’ fingertips against the cooler, posing “fingertip amputation and crushing hazards,” a Feb. 13 notice from Health Canada said.

The Texas-based company had not received any reports of injuries in Canada as of Feb. 3, but received 12 reports of fingertip injuries in the United States, including cases of amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations.

Approximately 47,000 units of the affected products were sold in Canada, 1,060,000 were sold in the United States, and 23,000 were sold in Mexico between May 2019 and February 2025, the advisory said.

Each of the recalled coolers is equipped with a tow handle, Health Canada said. The word “IGLOO” appears on the side of each of the coolers, which were available in various combinations of body and lid colours. All of the coolers were manufactured prior to January 2024.

Health Canada is advising all consumers to immediately stop using the recalled product and contact Igloo to receive a replacement tow handle.

Bike Recall

Canyon Speedmax Bikes are also being recalled due to potential detachment of the stem and handlebar which could cause riders to fall, according to a Feb. 13 notice from Health Canada.

The Canyon Speedmax CF models R073 and R41, equipped with a V21 Aerostem, could experience a fracture or breakage of the fork steerer tube. The fracture could result in separation of the stem and handlebar, particularly following a severe impact, such as striking a deep pothole, the advisory said.

“This might lead to a fall or in severe cases, injury depending on the situation and the rider’s environmental conditions,” the health agency said.

A total of 383 units of the affected products were sold in Canada from October 2016 to June 2024. The German bike company had not received any reports of incidents or injuries in Canada as of Feb. 12, the notice said.

Owners should cease use of the recalled products until the bikes have been inspected and repaired by a professional bike mechanic, Health Canada said.

Consumers can order a repair kit from the company website or call the company for more information.
