French Prime Minister Calls September Confidence Vote

French Prime Minister François Bayrou called for a confidence vote to be held next month, after three opposition parties refused to back the government’s planned budget cuts.

The move sees him putting his premiership on the line at the Sept. 8 vote in the National Assembly in Paris, as the European Union’s second-largest economy continues its struggle to get its deficit under control.
