The FBI is warning international college students, particularly those from China, about scams involving criminal actors impersonating foreign law enforcement officials.

In an advisory issued on Aug. 4, the FBI’s Philadelphia Field Office stated that there has been a growing number of cases since 2022 involving criminals impersonating Chinese police officers to defraud members of the Chinese community in the United States, particularly Chinese international students attending universities in the Philadelphia area.
