Carney Visits Calgary Stampede, Meets First Nations Leaders

The Canadian Press/Jeff McIntoshPrime Minister Mark Carney is spending July 11 in Calgary where he is meeting with First Nations leaders before visiting the Stampede grounds in the evening.Carney’s July 11 meeting with representatives of the Treaty 6, Treaty 7, and Treaty 8 First Nations is closed to the media, according to an itinerary published by the Prime Minister’s Office the previous day.Following the meeting, Carney will make his way to the Calgary Stampede, where he will tour vendor stalls and exhibits as part of the annual festivities.Carney said on social media last week that the Calgary Stampede, which runs from July 3 to 12 this year, is a celebration of “Alberta’s ranching heritage, Indigenous traditions, and the spirit of the West.”More than 150 artists will perform at this year’s Stampede at 10 different venues, including pop star Alanis Morissette on July 11 evening.
