Calgary Restaurant Owners Sentenced to Jail for Defrauding Foreign Workers

The Canadian Press/Bill GravelandThree Calgary restaurant owners are facing jail time after they were convicted of financially abusing their employees, who were temporary foreign workers.Justice Sandra Mah sentenced Manikandan Kasinathan, Chandramohan Marjak, and Mary Roche earlier this week to 90 days in jail each, to be served on weekends, according to a report by CBC News. The three co-owned Marina Dosa and Tandoori Grill in Calgary and were convicted of fraud over $5,000 in May 2025.
