10-Year-Old Punched, Mother Allegedly Stabbed with Scissors Outside Victoria Police HQ

Brook Mitchell/Getty ImagesA 27-year-old man has been charged after a woman was allegedly stabbed with scissors, and a 10-year-old boy assaulted in Melbourne’s central business district.The incident occurred around 1 p.m. on Aug. 25 outside Victoria Police’s headquarters.According to Victoria Police, the man allegedly punched the boy in the upper body before stabbing his 46-year-old mother in the upper body when she intervened.Footage shared on social media shows several members of the public restraining a man as police officers arrived on scene.Officers arrested the 27-year-old Sunshine West man and seized a pair of scissors.Both victims were transported to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.Superintendent Zorka Dunstan, who witnessed the incident, praised the actions of the bystanders.“It’s heroic … without their intervention, it could have been a lot worse,” she said, in comments obtained by AAP.Police do not believe the man knew the family.The man was charged with a string of offences, including two counts of unlawful assault, affray, intentionally causing injury, conduct endangering life, and conduct endangering serious injury.He is expected to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Aug. 26.
