Australias 10 Most Influential YouTube Accounts to Be Preserved for History

The Epoch TimesIn a worldwide first, the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) is set to include the nation’s 10 most influential YouTube accounts in its audio-visual archive.NFSA’s Chief Curator Meagan Loader said social media content was now the dominant form through which Australian identity was expressed.“In 50 years, when Australians come to the NFSA to find the audio-visual stories that defined our time, they’ll expect to see YouTube,” she said in a statement.“It’s vital we acquire this now to sit alongside our TV, radio, music, podcasts, games and films.“This new collaboration with YouTube enriches our collecting by providing insights into platform activity and impact and helps open the door for us to other creators.”The 10 featured accounts are:Bounce PatrolGlitchWengieBeau MilesCommunitychannelEddie WooSuperwogMight Car ModsTash Sultana; and theOutback BoysBounce Patrol is a five-member song and dance group that performs kids’ songs and nursery rhymes. The channel has 34 million subscribers and has clocked more than 28 billion views in its 13 years online.The Glitch channel, which produces animated series, has amassed 3.9 billion views.Meanwhile, the Wengie account, run by Wendy Ayche, has 1.9 billion views for its beauty tutorials, music, gaming and conversations about confidence and self-worth.Mathematician Eddie Woo has gained traction with his educational videos on maths.Other popular channels include Beau Miles who embarks on a range of experiences and adventures, while Communitychannel by actress Natalie Tran focuses on the topic of everyday awkwardness.Might Car Mods keeps millions entertained with budget builds and vehicle engine swaps, while Outback Boys takes audience out into the Australian bush.The Superwog account provides a light-hearted account of ethnic family interactions, while multi-instrumentalist Tash Sultana has captivated millions with her uploads.A total of 300 videos from the YouTube creators will be placed into the archive’s collection, alongside spoken information and context shared by the creators.Vice-President of Google Australia and New Zealand Mel Silva said the move would ensure YouTubers remain a part of the nation’s heritage.“This partnership is a perfect snapshot of everything YouTube represents—cementing these creators’ place in our living cultural record and giving future generations the chance to discover and experience the rich diversity of contemporary digital storytelling,” she said.Highlights from the channels and links to their YouTube accounts can be found in the Creator Capsule on the NFSA website.
