‘Traumatic’: Murder Charge After 10-Week-Old-Baby Dies

Date:

The man is due to face court today.

A man has been charged with murder, almost a month after a 10-week-old baby girl died from “traumatic” injuries.

Police say the 20-year-old accused man was known to the baby.

Officers were called to a central Queensland property at Gracemere at about 11:15 p.m. on Jan. 19, after reports a baby was unconscious and not breathing.

Detective Inspector Luke Peachey said the girl had suffered “substantial” injuries and support was being offered to emergency services who attended the scene.

“(The injuries were) very traumatic for all involved including the police officers and the emergency services,” he told reporters on Feb. 19.

The baby was taken to Rockhampton Hospital before being airlifted to Brisbane, where she died on Jan. 22.

Det Peachey said investigations were ongoing but he did not expect any further charges to be laid.

The man was charged with one count of murder of a domestic violence offence on the night of Feb. 18.

He will appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Feb. 19.

“It’s been a very thorough investigation, very traumatic to family members involved,” Det Peachey said.

“We’ll provide support to those people out there.”
