Alberta Tables Bill It Says Will Let Province Opt Out of Global Agreements Adopted by Feds

The government of Alberta has introduced new legislation it says will exempt the province from international agreements adopted by Ottawa, unless the provincial legislature approves joining the agreement.

Premier Danielle Smith tabled the International Agreements Act following the fall speech from the throne on Oct. 23, saying it forms part of her administration’s broader effort to ensure Alberta’s sovereignty and future prosperity.
