Senator Says Anti-Racism Efforts Too Slow Amid Concern of ‘Far-Right’ Immigration Marches

ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA – AUGUST 31: Anti-immigration protesters march from Rundle Park on August 31, 2025 in Adelaide, Australia. Various right wing and nationalist groups have called for anti‑immigration rallies across several Australian cities on August 31, citing concerns over border policies and cultural integration. Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi says not enough is being done to combat racism in Australia, amid her concerns that “March for Australia” protests were pushing some Australians to the far-right.

Faruqi outlined the concerns during a Senate Estimates hearing that examined the federal government’s National Anti-Racism Framework that contains 63 recommendations for “eliminating racism.”
