Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke has defended his decision to personally greet Palestinian refugees at Sydney Airport against critics from the Liberal Party who questioned the move.

A video showing Burke at the arrivals hall alongside waiting families has gone viral, drawing condemnation from the opposition and Jewish community.
