The number of Australians living in poverty has climbed to one in seven, according to a new report from the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) and the University of New South Wales (UNSW), released at the start of Anti-Poverty Week.

Using the latest figures from 2022–23, researchers found 3.7 million people, or 14.2 percent of the population, were living below the poverty line, up from 12.4 percent in 2020–21.
