Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and OpenAI have reached a deal that could see Sam Altman’s artificial intelligence (AI) juggernaut obtain a 10 percent stake in the chipmaker.

Shares of AMD climbed by about 35 percent before the Oct. 6 opening bell following the announcement of one of the largest deals in the AI sector this year. The stock is up by 36 percent since the beginning of 2025.
