On Jan. 24, hours before the Chinese defense ministry released its official statement, the CMC quietly activated a ‘near-war’ level of internal control, according to insiders familiar with the matter.The insiders spoke to The Epoch Times on condition of anonymity or with only their surnames published, citing safety concerns.
