Recurring Jobless Claims Shrink for 3rd Straight Week: Department of Labor

Economy‘The labor market is easing gradually, and layoffs remain contained,’ says Ali Hassan, portfolio manager at Thornburg Investment Management.The number of Americans receiving unemployment benefits fell for the third straight week, according to new data released by the Department of Labor on Jan. 29.For the week ended Jan. 17, continuing jobless claims declined to 1.827 million, from the previous week’s upwardly revised 1.865 million, the lowest level since September 2024.
