President Donald Trump said on Sept. 29 that “substantial” furniture tariffs will be imposed on any country that does not have a furniture manufacturing footprint in the United States. He cited the loss of such business to other countries, chiefly China.

“In order to make North Carolina, which has completely lost its furniture business to China, and other Countries, GREAT again, I will be imposing substantial Tariffs on any Country that does not make its furniture in the United States,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, noting that more details of the new trade move would come soon.
